A spirit of playful experimentation flows through OUT OF BOUNDS, the duo exhibition between David Matthew King and Marcel Rozek.
Fluidity has always been a central theme in Marcel's work-letting gravity, motion, and flow guide the outcome. But this collection marks a shift in his practice as he introduces acrylic alongside his signature use of oil paint, creating a bridge between the old and new. By combining these mediums, Marcel expands his exploration of color, shape, and form, adding new layers of depth and possibility.
David's paintings, which often adhere to strict boundaries in his acrylic line work, take an irreverent turn in this collection. Overlapping colors and marks break his self-imposed rules. "In this work, the boundary line becomes more of a destination than something to be avoided," he explains. His ongoing exploration of form and color is a way to express the fluctuating weight of existence-a central theme in his practice.
For the two artists-and golf buddies-the course has played an integral role in their creative process-a space for them to exchange ideas, struggles and laughter between swings. By Marcel's own admission "We're decent golfers and all, but we end up in the penalty area more often than I care to admit. Still, we always come back for more."
OUT OF BOUNDS invites viewers to reimagine boundaries, embracing the uncertainty and creativity that arise when traditional lines are crossed.
